Oldham Athletic away travel information
by Pam Wilkins

On Saturday 17th March, Pompey supporters will be travelling North to Oldham Athletic’s SportsDirect.com Park, Boundary Park, Oldham OL1 2PA. The Latics ground holds 13,500 all seated and Blues fans will be in the Zen Office Stand [the Chaddy Road End]. This is the opposite end to where we would have been on previous visits.

Although covered, the Zen Office stand does have some supporting pillars running across the front of it, which could impede your view. Make sure you wrap up well, the ground’s location on the edge of the Pennines means it always seems to be cold there, with a biting wind that goes right through you.

Getting to SportsDirect.com Park

By Car

From the M62, exit at Junction 20 and take the A627M signed Oldham. Take the second slip road off the A627M following the signs for Royton, the A663. At the top of the slip road you will find a large roundabout with a McDonalds and a KFC on the left. Take the second exit onto the A627 towards Oldham/Oldham Royal Hospital. After passing a Vauxhall garage and Clayton Green Brewers Fayre pub (an away fan friendly pub) turn left at the traffic lights. Follow the road around to the right and with the B&Q store in front of you, bear left onto Westhulme Way, which leads into Westhulme Avenue. You will then reach on your right, an entrance to Oldham Royal Hospital, where match day parking is available.

Parking at the ground is for permit holders only. The Oldham Royal Hospital car park has a charge of £3, and there is a steward there to assist.

By Train

There is no railway station at Oldham, you will need to travel to Manchester Piccadilly and then travel onward to Oldham by bus or metro. Trains run regularly from London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly and the journey from London will take just over two hours. The closest Metrolink stop to the ground is Westwood, which is around a 15-20 minute walk. From Manchester Piccadilly Metro Station catch an Altrincham or Eccles bound metro and change at St
Peter’s Square onto Line 5 towards Rochdale. There are ticket machines on the platform.

On exiting the Westwood metro stop, turn left along the main road and at the traffic lights turn right at the NatWest Bank into Featherstall Road. You will reach a roundabout outside a large Tesco store where you go straight on. At the next roundabout take the first exit in the direction of Rochdale/M62.

Follow the pathway beside the dual carriageway and when you reach the traffic lights with a B&Q store on your right, cross over at the lights onto the other side. At this point you should be able to see the floodlights in the distance. Go up the road between Pentagon and B&Q and then take the next left into Boundary Park Road. This will bring you out near to the away end of the ground. Alternately catch a bus from Piccadilly Bus Station or walk to Piccadilly Gardens, where the Oldham buses depart from Lever Street. Bus numbers 24,181 and 182 make the 25 minute journey to Oldham and stop near the ground. The nearest stop being outside the Royal Oldham Hospital at the top of Sheepfoot Lane.

Where to eat and drink

The closest pub to the ground is the Clayton Green, Westwood Retail Park, Chadderton, Oldham OL1 2PA. Situated 200 yards from the corner of the main stand on Sheepfoot Lane, it is a Brewers Fayre pub with a Premier Inn, offering pub grub. The Clayton Green has wheelchair access and an accessible toilet.

The Greyhound pub, Holden Fold Lane, Oldham OL2 5ES serves JW Lees beers.

Inside the ground there are the usual selection of hot drinks. The pies come highly recommended by other away fans. Alcohol is usually on sale from a separate kiosk to food.
