Pompey DSA have been an ever present feature of Portsmouth Football Club since community ownership in 2013.
We started small but have a growing membership, hold fortnightly meetings, on a Thursday and as a group and individually, have taken up volunteering - Victorious festival, grassroots football and PITC being amongst the things we've supported and continue to support. We also partnered PITC to put on the first Disability Inclusion Day at Fratton Park - an event supported by over 300 attendees. There were stalls representing disability sporting clubs, outreach organisations and Pompey Audio Descriptive Service - the commentary team demonstrating how the service for blind and partially sighted fans works.
Those attending were treated to first team player appearances, a Pompey DSA refreshments kiosk, taster sessions for powerchair football, walking football, an impromptu boccia tournament, tours of the ground and the premier of Pompey's first virtual tour with accompanying 'true to life' virtual changing room - we had the south's biggest buzz wire and the presence of MP for South Portsmouth Flik Drummond.
The famous Pompey DSA 'volunteering spirit' was much in evidence throughout. Since the start Pompey DSA have been working along side all at the club to improve access, donate equipment and help improve the match day experience for all disabled fans home and visiting supporters, including supplying the Audio descriptive commentary service for visually impaired In addition to regular meetings, volunteering and participation in sporting activists, Pompey DSA members travel the length and breadth of the country (and abroad) following Portsmouth Football Club - disabled or not, Pompey fans first and foremost...
