Pompey In The Community CEO Clare Martin is undertaking a major first for her, and last!

Clare, who is also a PST Board member since her election in September will be running in the Portsmouth Coastal Waterside Marathon which sees the course run from the Pyramids on Southsea seafront to Hayling Station Theatre, a course that hugs Langstone Harbour.

Clare had this to say about how she found herself involved.  "Back in late May I was sitting in an audit meeting with Pompey in the Community's accountant and auditor when the conversation turned to fund raising and before I knew it all three of us had agreed to sign up and run the Portsmouth Waterfront Marathon on December 20th!

I used 'Beginner to Marathon in 6 months' and training began. Initially I struggled to run a mile but gradually the distance built and with 3 shorter runs each week and a longer run at the weekends I improved. three weeks ago I did 20 miles, something I thought Id never do, and at that point I decided I could actually ask for support as there was now a chance Id complete it.

I'm determined to "run" every step of the way, however slowly, so walking will be failure!  The Marathon is on Sunday December 20th so I hope I'll be walking again by Christmas Day!

For my charity I chose the Portsmouth FC Powerchair Team as I've seen the difference playing makes to these youngsters and being promoted to the National League this season is a huge achievement!

You can donate directly at  https://www.justgiving.com/Clare-Martin12/ I also have a pot and a form at the Study Centre if anyone would like to pop in and make a contribution."

Clare is also looking for local Companies to sponsor her, a logo on her running kit is a bargain at 50 pounds.  You can contact Clare by emailing [email protected]
